Scope: national feeds vs local reality

Country files aggregate national feeds well and local stations unevenly. Affiliates, regional sports networks, and local news vary in coverage and stability. Analysis: treat the USA file as a national baseline plus a sampling of locals, not a complete local lineup. If specific local channels matter, verify their presence by group/name search in the M3U viewer before building the household setup around them.

Affiliate preemptions: why “the channel” isn't one thing

US network channels are carried by local affiliates that preempt network programming for local news, weather cut-ins, and regional sports, so two viewers on “the same channel” in different markets watch different content at the same hour. Analysis: this makes affiliate-heavy entries the least deterministic in the directory. Treat network feeds as stable, affiliate feeds as market-specific samples, and never promise a specific local broadcast based on a national file's entry name.

Timezones: the USA-specific EPG trap

Four mainland timezones plus Alaska, Hawaii, and territories make guide alignment the signature USA issue. A playlist carrying Eastern-feed channels with a mismatched guide shows correct data at the wrong hours, or “no information” where identifiers assume a different feed. Procedure: verify the guide with the EPG test, attach it, then check a known live news channel's now/next against real time. If everything is offset by whole hours, the fix is the guide's timezone/offset setting, not a new playlist. See the EPG mechanics in the setup guide.

FAQ

Will I get my city's local channels? Maybe partially. Verify by name search before assuming. Country files are strongest on national feeds.

Why does the guide show the wrong times? Timezone/offset mismatch between playlist feeds and the XMLTV source. Adjust the guide offset, don't re-import the list.

USA file or international index? The USA file for focused viewing; the international index for breadth and backup. Keep both configured. They fail independently.

What about Spanish-language US channels? Present in broad files but unevenly. Verify major networks by name search. Language-specific needs deserve explicit verification, not assumption from file size.

Do subchannels (-2, -3, diginets) appear? Sometimes, inconsistently. Subchannel lineups vary by market and source freshness — search exact callsigns rather than expecting complete lineups.

Is PBS covered? National PBS feeds surface regularly; member-station specifics vary. Verify the stations you want by name.

How do Daylight Saving transitions affect the guide? Spring and autumn clock changes expose every latent offset bug in a setup at once. Re-verify now/next alignment on a news channel in the week after each transition. It takes a minute and catches the annual breakage before it confuses a household.

How these entries are checked

Methodology: status badges appear only with a real check timestamp; until then entries show as Unchecked with unknown counts. Channel counts come from parsed data, never estimates, and HTTP 200 on a playlist URL never implies every stream plays. Third-party sources are attributed and their licensing is stated only when known. The full methodology — badge meanings, freshness reading, and what we never claim — is on the main directory page.
